Small business is big deal in retail

While the retail industry is statistically America's largest private sector employer, most of retail could actually fall under the "world's smallest employer" category.

In fact, 77% of retailers operate with fewer than 10 employees, this includes the equine retail sector, where our research shows an average of 5 full-time employees.

Among all companies with fewer than 10 employees, the National Retail Federation estimates that one out of every seven is a retailer. This NRF info graphic shows those sectors mostly made of small businesses.
